SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — He's not on this year's ballot, but Gov. Mike Beebe has a lot riding on Tuesday's election.

Arkansas voters will determine whether the state Legislature changes hands for the first time since Reconstruction. Beebe enjoyed successes with a Legislature as it was dominated by Democrats, but Republicans are hopeful they can pick up control of at least one chamber.

Beebe is scheduled to vote this morning at his home precinct in Searcy.

The governor has already made some suggestions for next year's legislative session, including the possible expansion of the state Medicaid program, but Republicans say they will have their own ideas when senators and representatives return to Little Rock in January. Some thoughts already kicked around include reducing the income tax and possibly cutting state spending.
