A 14-year-old girl is dead and three others hurt after an accident in North Little Rock. It happened on Batesville Pike, a stretch of road near the airport police call dangerous.
At this point, police have not identified a cause. There were four survivors of this accident. Police are hoping they can tell them exactly what happened.
As you could imagine, right now they're dealing with the loss of a 14-year-old.
An ambulance kept cars from driving down Batesville Pike as North Little Rock police worked to find out what caused a one car accident that claimed the life of 14-year-old Destiny Nowlin.
"To lose someone, teenagers in general, you never know. This is one of those times of year kids are getting ready to go back to school, to college and there's a lot of excitement... To have a life cut short like that, it affects everyone," says Sergeant Terry Kuykendall.
The others in the car range in age from 14 to 20 years old. One managed to walk away unharmed, three others went to the hospital. Police say their injuries aren't life threatening. They hope the survivors can give more information about what happened. Police also reconstructed the accident in search of clues.
"I think more than anything this area is known for turns that it has, hills. It's a pretty dangerous road anyway," says Sgt. Kuykendall.
Sergeant Terry Kuykendall with North Little Rock police say they don't believe alcohol or drugs played a role, but are running toxicology tests on the driver just to be sure. Police want to give the family as much information as they can.
"Anytime you can try to find out a cause....obviously it gives at least that information. That helps them deal with the situation and move on as best they can. It's going to be a tough time," says Sgt. Kuykendall.
The crash happened Sunday afternoon shortly after 4PM. Members of the police and fire departments spent several hours gathering evidence and cleaning up the scene.
