LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Decked out in red, white, and blue, Pulaski County Judge Buddy Villines said the bridge will be one more attraction to Central Arkansas.
But it's not just any old bridge to connect two cities.
This one will provide a history lesson, containing quotes about freedom made by famous Americans.
"It's important enough to our people and I think the people of this region, this state, and this country that this bridge gets built," Villines said.
Villines got the endorsement from regional leaders to move ahead with this design. But he said even if the cities don't chip in to help pay for this $79 million structure, the county would find a way to fund it.
"It's a symbol of the lasting value of the values of America of freedom and democracy," Villines said.
It won't just be vehicles on this bridge, but there will be room for pedestrians and will be a part of the Arkansas River Trail.
Villines said the bridge will also have names of Arkansans recognized in their work for freedom and peace.
All on display for everybody to see and thank.
"Everytime we look at it, we experience it, we'll feel a little bit better about being American," Villines said.
Construction on this bridge could start around this time next year.
