It's what bargain hunters have been waiting for all summer: Labor Day weekend sales! And there are a ton of them.
Ads and flyers filled the Sunday papers promising 50 percent off or zero percent financing. Maybe these bargain shoppers didn't get to use the new grill on July 4th or take a road trip in their new car during vacation season, but they will next year and they're saving a big chunk of change.
From gas grills to charcoal grills to weed eaters, if it has to do with summer you can probably get a deal on it.
"We're trying to start working on the lawn for next year actually so we've got to replace the hose and sprinkler that broke," Laura Schnackenberg told us.
She said she and her family came to Home Depot to replace some items worn out after a long summer of lawn care. And even though she didn't come looking for deals they found her. She may even get a lawn mower since they're on sale.
Those at Home Depot says while July 4th and Memorial Day are generally busier than this holiday weekend, you find some people these days who hold out for bargains.
"You've got an impressive inventory at most every dealer and you've got sales going on that are the close out of the summer," said Frank Thomas with Crain Hyundai/Mazda.
Car dealers say it's time to unload the inventory they have now to make way for new models. And while sales have been strong this weekend they've been that way all summer even without Cash for Clunkers.
Those at Home Depot say even though this is pretty much the last hurrah for deals on summer items you can expect winter weatherization items like plastic sheeting and weather stripping to go on sale soon too.
Even non-summer items are on sale this weekend. So if you plan on taking advantage of the Labor Day sales Monday, the National Retail Federation told U.S. News and World Report you'll find some of the largest discounts on children's clothing and electronics.
