Lonoke man flees checkpoint, crashes into his house

On Sunday, around 1am, Lonoke County Deputies were conducting a safety check-point at the intersection of Highway 70 and Highway 15. A car approached the check-point then turned around on Highway 70 and sped off west towards North Little Rock.

Deputies pursued the car in a chase reaching speeds of 96mph. The vehicle then slowed down and pulled into a residential driveway and struck the corner of the house.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Clarence Johnie Harris and resident of the house, fled on foot into an nearby field. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate Harris.

Later that morning, Harris came to the Sheriff’s Office and turned himself in. He was arrested for Fleeing, Driving on a suspended license, and outstanding arrest warrants.

Harris is being held at the Lonoke County Detention Facility.
