A Pulaski County Special School District middle school student was pulled off a bus for having a loaded weapon.
The Northwood Middle School student had a loaded BB gun in his backpack, and a bus driver saw him waving it around on the bus. A school security guard immediately escorted the 11-year-old boy to the office before anyone got hurt.
Pulaski County Sheriff's Deputies describe the BB gun as small enough to fit inside a backpack and real enough looking to cause concern.
The boy denied having it, but school security guards found the BB gun in his backpack.
PCSSD Superintendent Dr. Charles Hopson put out a statement saying, "The bus driver, security and administration at Northwood Middle School should be credited for quickly diffusing the situation and handling this issue according to protocol."
No charges are being filed by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department.
The boy told authorities he borrowed the the BB gun from a cousin because a 7th grader was bullying him. Bringing a weapon to class violates school policy, so the boy could face suspension. It's up to the Northwood Middle School Principal to decide how the student should be punished.
