LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A two-block stretch of Kavanaugh Boulevard in the Heights was evacuated as authorities investigated a backpack that a man left while robbing a bank, claiming there was a bomb inside.

Little Rock police Lt. Terry Hastings says authorities shot open the backpack with a blast of water and determined the device wasn't explosive. Hastings says police believe the man tried to make the device resemble a bomb, even though it wasn't explosive.

Hastings says the man walked into a U.S. Bank on Friday morning and demanded money, saying he had a bomb inside the backpack. The man took the money and ran off, leaving behind the bag.

The robber is described as a balding man with a goatee who was wearing a red shirt, gray sweater and cargo pants.
