FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say a man found lying on the side of a road in Fort Smith may have died of heat exhaustion.

Fort Smith police said Wednesday that 47-year-old Olaf Brian Cooper died at a local hospital.

Officers received a call about a man who wasn't responding or speaking around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. An ambulance transported Cooper to a hospital, where staffers determined he had a core temperature of 108 degrees.

Hospital staff told police the suspected cause of death was heat exhaustion and kidney failure.

Police say a truck driver who called police told them he was only dressed in underwear and had no identification on him. Police say Cooper was identified through fingerprints.

Officers say Cooper's vehicle was found later.

Investigators say foul play isn't immediately suspected.
