LITTLE ROCK, AR - State police say a Texas man shot and killed himself after a short chase on Interstate 40 Thursday night.

Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle traveling westbound from West Memphis with the driver brandishing a firearm. They say they stopped the vehicle outside of Forrest City but the driver fled as they approached the car.

According to Bill Sadler with the Arkansas State Police, troopers pursued the vehicle to just east of the Palestine exit where the sports-car suddenly stopped.

Troopers say they approached the car and found the driver, who was the only occupant of the car, dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The driver has been identified as 60-year-old Rex Lee McCollum of Grapevine, Texas.

A handgun was recovered from the car. The body has been sent to the State Crime Laboratory for examination.
