UPDATE: 2-year-old found in back of truck
Two-year-old Mariyah Fletcher has been found and returned to her mother.
Around 3:30 a.m. Eric Buchanan, who rents a garage apartment on Gaines Street, heard a baby crying. He first thought it was a relative’s child crying. After a few minutes he realized the child was outside and Buchanan went to check.
He found Mariyah in the bed of his pickup truck which was parked in the driveway. He took Mariyah inside and called police and a female friend to come help with her care. Buchanan gave Mariyah some orange juice and they cleaned her up.
Schamitha Drayer dropped Mariyah off in the bed of the pickup truck and left.
This is a random address and has no ties to Drayer or Mariyah’s family.
Mariyah was taken to the hospital to be check out and she is doing great. She is now with her mother and family.
Detectives will be filing charges against Schamitha Drayer later today. Drayer’s location is still unknown at this time.
This could have ended terribly because Mariyah was left in the bed of a pickup truck, exposed to the night air and Mariyah was dressed in very light clothing.
