LITTLE ROCK, AR - Mayor Earnest Nash has been released from the Lincoln County jail. He was arrested Wednesday night on a contempt of court charge.

On Thursday, in a release, Nash’s lawyer Hank Bates said: “I can confirm that, following the filing of our motions earlier today [Thursday] and without a hearing, Mayor Earnest Nash has been released from jail and is home with his wife and children tonight.”

According to court filings, Nash was required to provide a key to the Gould Recorder Treasurer’s Office by noon Wednesday. Lincoln County Circuit Court Judge Wyatt found Nash did not comply with that order so Nash was found in contempt of court and was ordered arrested and held with bond.

Bates contends in his motions that Nash did provide the key to the Recorder Treasurer’s Office and that the locked door in question was a closet in the office, not the office itself. It is unknown, based on the filings, if Nash has the key to the closet or if the closet contains anything material to the Recorder Treasurer’s job.
