An Arkansas family is overcoming not just one, but two language barriers for their new adopted son.

The Fields adopted 8-year-old Gavin from China, who also happens to be deaf.

Now Gavin, orphaned at 8 months old, and his new parents are learning American Sign Language so they can communicate.

The Fields say they welcomed the challenge of adopting a child with a disability.

"These are regular kids who need a regular mom and dad; a home to love them,"

Gavin's new family and friends just celebrated his 9th birthday.

They say it was his first-ever birthday celebration.
