Maumelle police charged a juvenile boy with rape Tuesday. Authorities believe the victim had sex with more than one person in a locker room at Maumelle Middle School on May 11th.
Enny Gottschalk told us her grandson went to Maumelle Middle School, but the family withdrew him from the school because of fights on campus. She says the alleged rape reinforced their concerns and her granddaughter won't go to the school either.
Maumelle police believe the girl met with the boys willingly in the locker room. However, considering her age and the age of the arrested suspect, sex between the two is considered rape. Maumelle police chief Sam Willis says according to Arkansas law, consent is not taken into consideration when the child is under the age of 14, and the other person is more than 3 years older than them.
Chief Willis also said authorities do not think Maumelle Middle School is suffering from any security or safety concerns. As for the other boys involved, Willis could not comment except to say that the investigation is ongoing.
A Pulaski County Special School District spokesperson who talked to FOX16 was unable provide a comment.
