LITTLE ROCK, AR – A man who told law enforcement he was trying to break up a fight is behind bars charged with murder. Investigators say the suspect told them he feared for his life.

Edward Charles Lee, of Charlene Lane just outside Little Rock, is in the Pulaski County Detention Center facing a charge of first degree murder. The first Pulaski County Sheriff’s deputy on the scene says 34-year-old Lee told him he heard two men fighting next door and went to break it up.

Lee was armed with a handgun when he says one of the fight participants 22-year-old Antonio Davis, who lived at the Charlene Lane address, started coming towards him.

Lee says he and Davis had a prior history of violence between them that resulted in Lee suffering a broken ankle.

The suspect told the deputy he asked Davis multiple times to stop coming towards him, when he didn’t, Lee fearing for his life, fired four shots hitting the victim in the chest.

This is the fifth homicide for the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office this year. There were a total of 9 in 2011.
