A strong surge of cold air follows a cold front today, with temperatures falling into the 30s during the afternoon and evening. Northerly winds will make it feel more like 20s.
The front stalls near the Louisiana border tonight as a weak wave of low pressure moves along the front.

As the low pressure passes to our South late Tonight, light rain and some freezing rain will move across the area. Accumulations are expected to be minor, with less than a tenth of an inch. This will be enough to cause some icy spots mainly on bridges and overpasses.

The greatest threat for icing will be North of I-40, where temperatures will likely be a couple degrees below freezing. Temperatures will be close to or just above freezing for the metro area with above freezing temperatures South.

Temperatures will quickly warm well above freezing State-Wide by mid-morning Friday, bringing an end to any concerns of ice.
