LITTLE ROCK, AR – Another class-action lawsuit has been filed against companies that drill for natural gas in central Arkansas. This one is asking for millions of dollars in relation to the earthquakes associated with the fracking process the companies use.
Named in the suit are BHP Billiton Petroleum, Chesapeake Operating, Inc., and Clarita Operating, LLC. The suit alleges that the injection wells have caused thousands of earthquakes near Greenbrier and Guy that have damaged residents in Faulkner County and surrounding counties.
Sam Lane of Faulkner county is filing the lawsuit. He says the natural gas companies have no concern for the welfare of those living near the wells - nor those affected by the earthquakes. Lane is the head of "Stop Arkansas Fracking" - a group doing their own research on the correlation between fracking and earthquakes. He and his attorney believe they have more than enough evidence linking the two to win this in court.
The damages enumerated in the suit are property damage, loss of fair market value in real estate, emotional distress, and damages related to the purchase of earthquake insurance.
The class action complaint was filed in Faulkner County Circuit Court in Conway, AR.
