UCA officials are taking notes and they're the kind most students aren't happy about. Professors hope a new policy will teach students how to make the grade the honest way.

Some students rely on their own personal knowledge, others, well, they like to cheat.

"I taught over the summer and the very first paper that I had them turn in..I had 11 out of 37 plagiarized papers," says associate professor Wendy Castro Ph.D.

Now the University of Central Arkansas, UCA, has adopted a new academic integrity policy. The point is not to punish, but to educate.

"If we could help students learn about this in such a way that nobody cheated again, we would be delighted," says Associate Provost Jonathan A. Glenn, Ph.D.

With the old policy teachers would handle cheaters in the classroom.

"It would only be by chance that we would know that a student had cheated in five classes," says Glenn.

Now when a cheater is caught it goes on the student's permanent record.

"I don't feel its fair at all. I think the permament record is a little bit too harsh. I think you should get a couple of warnings before its on your permanent record because this is for life," says junior Danielle White.

If the cheating continues it means attending an integrity workshop, meeting with the dean, and if the student still doesn't get the message, expulsion.

If you're caught cheating, even once, you lose credibility with your professors.

So before you pull out the cheat sheet, remember you're only hurting yourself.

Professors say these days it's much easier to cheat because students can just copy the information off the internet.

The university has created a new website to support the new policy.
