Obesity in Arkansas
A new study from the u-s centers for disease control shows 28-percent of adult Arkansans are considered obese.  That’s roughly four times the population of Little Rock.  Nationwide the CDC’s study found 26 percent of adults are obese.  The CDC uses body mass index to define obesity which some critics say can lead to problems, such as labeling an athlete as obese because muscle weighs more than fat.

Marijuana and teens
The government says smoking marijuana is gaining popularity among U.S. teens.  A federal survey of high school seniors found more than 20-percent of them have smoked pot in the past twelve months.  The survey also showed fewer teens believe marijuana is dangerous.  However teen smoking, binge drinking and meth use have all dropped off.  The survey also found teen abuse of prescription drugs is still going up.

Preventing diabetes
Drinking coffee or tea could help reduce your risk of type two diabetes.  Australian researchers found drinking one more cup of coffee or tea a day lowers your risk for diabetes by seven percent.  People who drink three to four cups per day were 25-percent less likely to get type two diabetes.  And it’s not the caffeine at work in fact, researchers found similar benefits for those who drink decaf.  There are other ingredients in coffee and tea that may help reduce the risk.
