LITTLE ROCK, AR - Conway police officer William McGary died shortly after 5pm Friday from injuries sustained when he was hit by a car while directing traffic.

The Conway Police Department asks for you to keep the family in your prayers:

CPD has spent the past day with the McGary family, they are very proud that he was a member of the Conway Police Department and appreciative of all the outpouring of support. The presence of all the officers and other members of our agency has helped them through this difficult time. Please continue to offer them love and support in the days ahead.

McGary was hit on Dave Ward Drive just before 8pm on Thursday. He was flown to Baptist in Little Rock for treatment. The man police say hit him, Barry Strickland, was arrested on scene and charged with DWI-drugs, first degree battery, and other related traffic offenses. Right now, it is unclear whether charges will be upgraded.

The department's facebook page continues to be flooded with well-wishes for the family.

Financial contributions can be made to the Martin McDaniel FOP. Please contact Pam Sweeney at 501-450-6199.
