LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Family Council Action Committee produced an ad to encourage Arkansans to vote no to "Issue 5," which would legalize pot for medicinal purposes.

Part of the ad says the following: "It's really about making it easier to get illegal drugs. Arkansas doesn't need a state filled with stoned out zombies or the criminal activities that come from legalizing controlled substances."

The group behind the commercial also fought to keep this measure off the November ballot. But the State Supreme Court ruled against that.

"They got a lot of money outside of the state that upheld this issue so it does make me wonder what this is really about and I know for sure it's not about issue," said Jerry Cox, executive director of the Family Council Action Committee.

David Couch with Arkansans for Compassionate Care said the ad is the opponents' attempt to distract voters with accusations that legalization will lead to crime and increased drug activity.

"There's always going to be an example of somebody abusing the system but we need to focus on the people who need this, who want to try this without breaking the law," Couch said.
