LITTLE ROCK, AR -- From the cabbage patch dolls of decades ago to tickle me elmo a few years back, there's always one hot toy that the kids are dreaming of during the holidays. Toy experts say there are 4 hot toy groups for 2012.
The first group is technology.
"(Kids) are swiping before they're speaking sometimes and we're really embracing it because they're really learning the digital skills that they need for the 21st century," said expert Laurie Schacht.
Construction toys are the 2nd group. Lego is now producing a line for girls. There are also chunkier versions for toddlers with smaller hands.
Crafting is category number 3; including the toy train kids can color and crawl through to the Crayola marker air brush.
Pop culture is number four on the list. This year, Chuggington is taking train fans to a new level with various new gadgets.
When it comes to buying, Schacht says start now.
"Retailers are not overstocking. So if you see something that's really high on your child's list, you should buy it," said Schacht.
