As part of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives Conference at the Statehouse Convention Center, a panel of speakers took up the topic Sunday afternoon of The Lost Class, referring to the school year 1958-1959. That's the year all Little Rock high schools were closed in an effort to block desegregation.
The panel discussed how nearly 4,000 black and white students were locked out of classrooms. Participants of the panel discussion say The Lost Class is often forgotten about.
Honorable Judy Green, Justice of the Peace for the Pulaski County Quorum Court District 9 moderated the discussion. She says most of the country only knows about the Little Rock 9. "During the Central High School crisis, there were 200 high school seniors who missed out on graduation, class rings, and prom."
The theme of the conference is "Blazing New Trails: Building on the Legacy of Justice by Action."
