The University of Central Arkansas, UCA, campus is remembering two students gunned down one year ago. Students showed up for a vigil to reflect on the lives of the victims. They sat and stood, scores of people who knew Ryan Henderson and Chavares Block.
Those who went to school with the two and those who brought them into the world were there to remember the lives lost. “You have to take it one day at a time,” Ryan’s dad, Reverend Ricardo Henderson said.
It's been a trying year for Ryan’s father Reverend Ricardo Henderson. But he wanted to be at the vigil to keep his son's memory alive.
“He was a sweet kid, he was well loved, well rounded, never met a stranger,” Henderson said.
For the UCA community, the loss was coupled with a new sense of fear. “Yeah I think there is some anxiety here, we live in the south, we're kind of in this little bubble,” SGA President Cody Wilson said.
Right now Kawin Brockman, Kelsey Perry, Mario Toney and Brandon Wade all sit behind bars, charged in the attack. UCA has put new security measures in place. Students say it is a step in the right direction but it is important to never forget what happened or who it happened to.
