Dogs at the Malvern animal shelter needed loving homes and the people of Malvern adopted all the animals. It's a short term shelter so if the animals were not adopted by (March, 30th) they would have been put down.

The shelter is having an adoption day Saturday and they're calling on all animal lovers. Volunteers with the Malvern animal shelter are doing all they can to get these dogs adopted out by Monday.

The shelter is not designed to keep dogs for a long period of time and they've kept these dogs for as long as they can; now they face with a harsh reality.

"We are extremely desperate we are having and adopt-a-thon Saturday from 3 to 5 anything that's not adopted out will be euthanized Monday so its critical that we try to get as many of these guys out as possible," Libby Slaton said.

The shelter started off with 22 dogs now they have 11 left they're hoping people will come out and see these faces and can't resist.

Chris Thomas sure couldn't. He stopped by just to take a look. He left empty handed but came back because he couldn't stop thinking about the possibility of one of the little guys being put down. “I've already got two of my own what's another one," Thomas said.

Gail Vann understands the shelters dilemma but she wants to give these animals a chance. Vann is adopting a dog and sending the call out to friends. "We decided to just come look and call everyone we know to come and try to help save them," Vann said.

Volunteers say as soon as they get these dogs out the shelter will fill right back up and that presents another problem. The city needs an animal control officer. Right now off duty police officers are running the shelter but in order to handle the city's stray and vicious dogs they need someone fulltime.

"We need some one two or three times a day to handle these calls, its very important for us to have an animal control problem," LR Ross with the Malvern Police Department said.

But citizens can do their part to help control the pet population; by making sure their animals are spayed or neutered and that they aren't running loose.

The Malvern animal shelter is holding an adoption day Saturday from 3pm to 5pm at the facility on Canine Road.

The animals are free and you can get a voucher to have them spayed or neutered. Also the city is looking to hire an animal control officer if you're interested call the Malvern police department.
