Randy Ort, a spokesman for the state Highway and Transportation Department, said both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-30 were closed on Thursday near the Pulaski-Saline county line after water overflowing from Fourche Creek and its tributaries covered the highway.
A major problem, Ort said, is what would normally be an alternate route for that traffic, Arkansas Highway 5, is also covered with water and closed, bringing most northeast-southwest traffic in the area to a halt.
Captain Randy Hickman with the Little Rock Fire Department would like to remind drivers not to go around barricades. Hickman says water is still rising in the city and roads continue to be dangerous.
We will keep an updated list of closed roads as reports come in. Check back often for updated closures.
