You were probably pretty shocked to see so much snow Monday morning when you woke up. This snow even surprised some meteorologists especially since there's so much of it.
So why did this mess seem to come out of nowhere?
"I thought this was really bad because it was supposed to have rained," said Andy Wells.
Instead, Wells spent the day plowing his building's parking lot, but he isn't upset about the surprise snow.
"I think it just came further south than they realized it would move," said Wells.
Is andy right? I went to the National Weather Service to get some answers.
"Do you think this caught a lot of people off guard?" asked FOX16's Kelly Dudzik.
"Even us it caught off guard. You know, in the summertime if you a temperature error in your forecast of a degree or two, it's not a big deal. If you forecast 85, and it's really 87, no one really cares, but in the winter if you're off by a degree or two it can make a really big difference," says Dan Koch.
And that's what happened Monday. A low pressure system moved into the state faster than expected.
"Also, we had a little bit more cold air come into the state than we had expected. We thought it was going to be a little bit warmer today, and a lot of this was going to be rain," saus Koch.
Instead, the Weather Service team is now working around the clock keeping an eye on the snow storm for you and your family. It wasn't easy for them to get to work either.
So why did Wells leave the house? He's getting ice, and he's not afraid of the roads.
"Well, I do drive a four by four, so that makes a difference," says Wells.
