A cab company in Arkansas wants to help keep drunken drivers off the road this New Years Eve. Last year Yellow Cab launched the Safe Ride Home Program and they're doing it again this year. Wednesday night, bars in the River Market like Flying Saucer are expecting a crowd. This is why it says it’s important to participate in Yellow Cab’s Safe Ride Home Program.

"Well, we don't like drunk driving. So, it's just a good cheap way to get people home safe. [It’s] less liability for us. It's good for the community," says Flying Saucer General Manager Matt Hogue.

Here's how it works, if you've had too much to drink, Yellow Cab will come and pick you up for free, but only at participating bars and restaurants.

"The patron they call a cab for, does get a free cab ride up to $25. They can request it themselves, or if the bartender spots an inebriated patron, he can call the cab for them," says Yellow Cab Senior Vice President David Wages.

The company says to make sure you know where your car is the next morning; places will put your information and keys in an envelope and make sure you have it when you leave in the cab. "The driver then takes the driver home and hands them the envelope. They go inside, wake up the next morning. They're home safe and plus they know where their car is," Wages says.

The program kicked off last November and is available year round. “Over the last year, we have spent thousands of dollars on this program. Bottom line is if it took one potentially intoxicated driver off the road, it's worth all the effort and every penny that we spend on it," says Wages.

There are various participating bars and restaurants in Little Rock and North Little Rock.  For more information on participating businesses call 501-570-9999, 501-537-4952 or email operations@yellowcablr.com
